Shopping in Savannah

March 22nd, 2010 | Shopping Guide

I spent this past weekend in Savannah, Georgia, with my long-time friend and shopping buddy, Emily. We walked the historic district, had a drink on River Street and of course, we scoured the Southern city for great shops. We spent most of our time in historic downtown and found four Savannah shops that we really liked.

Paris Market & Brocante 36 W. Broughton StreetParis Market is a well-known Savannah shop and with good reason. The upstairs is an airy corner space filled with antique glass bottles, interesting books, vintage dishes and tons of other things that are just fun to look at. The downstairs is a mixture of furniture, antique camera equipment, and more out of the ordinary decor. Paris Market carries Matt by Matt and Nat bags and had a good selection. There also a small cafe inside Paris Market where you can get a coffee and a cookie.

Terra Cotta 34 Barnard Street

Terra Cotta was one of our favorite Savannah boutiques. They have a nice selection of Archipelago candles, bath products, clothes, lingerie and the most Hobo bags I have ever seen in one place. They carry Hobo International purses and wallets and have a really great mix of styles and colors.

Civvies on Broughton 22 E. Broughton Street

Civvies is an upstairs shop that sells vintage and new clothing. The new clothing is geared towards the younger crowd but they also have some funky jewelry and shoes. They have one wall of shelving full of vintage purses that is worth rummaging through. Emily found a great vintage Frye bag there for only $35. They have a second location at 35 Montgomery Street.

Custard Boutique 414 Whitaker Street

Custard Boutique is off the main drag but is worth the trip. This hip shop carries Tano bags, French Connection, Kensie, Pink Studio and several other fun and colorful clothing lines. I was lucky enough to meet Tara, the owner of Custard, and found out that she used to live in Asheville! Small world.

Two other favorites from the weekend that have nothing to do with shopping are Mrs. Wilkes’ Dining Room and Forsythe Park. I highly recommend both.

Anyone been to Savannah and have some shopping suggestions to share?

Good to know…we go to Tybee Island outside of Savannah every Christmas and I never know where to go. It is often cold also and I don’t feel like just wandering the streets with no reason…as cute as the streets are. Next time…take me with you!!! I’m not joking!
