Latico Yale Tote

June 2nd, 2011 | Purse Spotlight

Latico handbags

I’ve been looking for a black tote that could work in summer and I think I’ve found it in the Latico Leathers Yale Tote. Latico bags always impress with the quality of item you get for the price. They design their bags thoughtfully, giving them interesting details but without making them so crazy that they wouldn’t work in a business environment as well. The Yale is no exception. The texture makes the bag much more visually interesting that matte black leather and also serves to hide the inevitable scratches you get on your bag if you’re as clumsy as I am.

The Latico Yale Tote is available from Latico for $248.

Meredith Wendell Bucket Leather and Canvas Shoulder Bag

Meredith Wendell Shoulder bag

If you’re looking for a way to work this season’s color-blocking trend or need to add some pep to a neutral wardrobe, look no further than the Meredith Wendell bucket leather and canvas shoulder bag. With 3 shades of blue and eye-popping red accents, this bag will surely stand out in the summer sea of white and straw handbags.

I used to wear bright colored clothing a lot but recently, for slimibility and versatility reasons, I’ve veered towards black.  This is the kind of bag that can continue the happiness that comes with bright colors without me having to be dressed like a clown.

Available exclusively from Net-A-Porter for $795.

Susan B. Anthony Commemorative Purse

Susan B Anthony purse

“Every woman needs a purse of her own.”

This is one of the quotes that graces the Ms. Anthony bag, the Susan B. Anthony commemorative purse being sold as a fundraiser by the Susan B. Anthony House. The design of the faux-alligator bag is based on the alligator purse that Susan B. Anthony carried throughout her fight for suffrage.  Ms. Anthony considered a purse to be very important, because instead of being a fashion statement, it symbolized a woman’s financial independence.

Balenciaga Papier Flap Bag

I have to say, the Balenciaga Papier Flap bag makes me swoon. When I saw it I immediately started trying to figure out what I could do, besides marrying a prince, to get my hands on one. Eat ramen for a month? Give plasma? I think both would be worth it. I am not usually bowled over by Balenciaga, but in the Papier Flap bag, I think they’ve found my weakness.

Evidently others loved it too because it’s currently sold out on Mytheresa.com but I am hoping it will be back in stock by the time I’ve saved up my $1,445.

Garnet Hill Metallic Linen Tote

April 30th, 2011 | Purse Spotlight

I love the simple chicness of the Garnet Hill Metallic Linen Tote. It’s a lightweight, slouchy tote with a nice silver sheen that will fit in almost anywhere. As a plus it squishes totally flat, so is great for travel as well.

Available from Garnet Hill for $88.

Jil Sander Market Floral-Print Bag

Jil Sander purses

When I was growing up, our celebration of Easter always included a new dress, usually brightly colored and covered in flowers. I still love the idea of spring and Easter as representing a new, fresh start and while my taste in dresses has changed a bit, I can get my fill of flowers from the Jil Sander Market floral-print bag, available from Net-A-Porter for $740.

I wish everyone a wonderful Easter weekend and hope it’s a time of family and friends, good food and fresh starts.

Anthropologie Nomad Scarf Bag

Another winner from Anthropologie and without the ridiculous price of some of their other offerings. The Anthropologie Nomad Scarf Bag is somehow wild and ladylike at the same time. The slouchy but not totally unstructured shape will help you look put together and the exotic plants and frolicking zebras give will give you the free-spirited vibe we all long for in summer.  My only worry is that silk scarves can tear easily so let’s hope this one has some reinforcement.

Available from Anthropologie for $88.
