I have good news and I have better news.
First, the good news. I have found another great British company that, like Boden, makes beautiful and whimsical bags (have the British cornered the market on whimsey?). Radley London was started in 1998 and their goal is to make “beautiful handbags and accessories that are a pleasure for women to own.” Based on what I’ve seen, I think it would be my pleasure to have any of Radley’s beautiful items.
Now, the better news. Until recently Radley London only shipped in the UK, but no longer! In the last few months they have launched a website for the US with shipping costs of only $6-9 within the continental United States.
We are planning a trip to London in the fall and I am excited to visit a Radley store, but with shipping in the US I might not be able to wait that long to get one of their colorful purses!
I recently fell in love with a bag from Anthropologie-the Alfresco Bag. It is a great neutral color, soft leather, adjustable from a tote into a smaller purse and comes with a snazzy printed scarf to liven it up.

I was entranced by the website description of it being the perfect bag for a trip to the market to buy a baguette for a picnic. It also had a five star rating on Anthroplogie’s website based on 16 reviews. I couldn’t go wrong, right?
I ordered it and waited with glee for it to arrive. Finally, it came and although the leather is beautiful and the bag is chic, I immediately noticed one fatal flaw. Read the rest of this entry »
I know this is not purse related but it is something that’s important to my town and to bloggers everywhere. The Asheville community is working hard to attract Google’s fiber network project. Google is looking for a place to build a world-class broadband network with speeds 100x faster than the internet now in your home. If Google chooses us, we will have amazing internet service, will attract businesses from all over the world and will be free of Charter Communications! If you love Asheville, please nominate it at GoogleAVL.com.
Did anyone else get the catalog for the new L.L. Bean Signature Collection? Holy cow! L.L. Bean is going chic! No longer just plaid and parkas, the new collection has pencil skirts, wrap dresses and stacked heels. I think the Signature line is L.L. Bean’s attempt to reach demographic that they’ve been missing. So far they’ve got me.
The bags in the Signature Collection have classic L.L. Bean style with an updated look–washed canvas, nubuck, and leather with boat rope handles that definitely follow the current nautical trend.
Until April 26 they are offering a free $10 gift card with any purchase of $50 or more.
I spent this past weekend in Savannah, Georgia, with my long-time friend and shopping buddy, Emily. We walked the historic district, had a drink on River Street and of course, we scoured the Southern city for great shops. We spent most of our time in historic downtown and found four Savannah shops that we really liked.
Paris Market & Brocante 36 W. Broughton Street
Paris Market is a well-known Savannah shop and with good reason. The upstairs is an airy corner space filled with antique glass bottles, interesting books, vintage dishes and tons of other things that are just fun to look at. The downstairs is a mixture of furniture, antique camera equipment, and more out of the ordinary decor. Paris Market carries Matt by Matt and Nat bags and had a good selection. There also a small cafe inside Paris Market where you can get a coffee and a cookie.

Update: Not sure why but the Billboard Tote is not available until September 5, 2010. Bummer.
Designer Holly Aiken’s mission is to make “uncomplicated bags using distinctive, indestructible materials” and if you check out her colorful product line, you’ll see she has succeeded. All Holly Aiken handbags are made of vinyl and black webbing and feature colorful, geometric patterns. The are mildew and oil resistant and because of the materials, they are a cinch to clean.
She has multiple styles, patterns, and color combinations to choose from. I was instantly drawn to the Taxi Poppy in Iris and Orange, probably because I have major spring fever. Holly also makes accessories and I think the coasters would make an especially fun gift (in case anyone is looking to get me a gift).

You can order on her website or if you’ll be near Raleigh, North Carolina, you can stop by Stitch, Holly’s store and showroom where her bags are designed and created. You can make special orders there as well.
