Marc by Marc Jacobs Franny Animal-print PVC Tote

June 28th, 2010 | Purse Spotlight

I don’t usually like bags made from PVC and I don’t often like animal print but somehow this Marc by Marc Jacobs Franny Animal-print PVC tote does them both well. The print is lively but neutral enough that you won’t tire of it too quickly. Also, the print is a brilliant choice for the PVC material as it has a nice sheen without looking cheap.

This bag will look great with jeans and a solid colored tee and can take you from summer into early fall. It also comes with my new favorite bag addition: the detachable shoulder strap. You can buy it at Net-a-Porter for $330.

Versatile Clutches that can go from Day to Night

June 26th, 2010 | Purse Trends

I love that cross-body bags are so in right now. It’s nice that the fashion industry has given a little nod in the way of practicality without losing much style. I also like that designers are making bags so versatile now. Whether large or small, many bags now come with a detachable and/or adjustable shoulder strap to help you get the most use out of your purses.

I think this is brilliant. An example is this nautical themed bag, the Melie Bianco striped foldover clutch.  As I’ve said before, I don’t really do clutches except to swanky parties, so I wouldn’t buy this as just a clutch but the added shoulder strap is helping to woo me.

Have you taken advantage of this new trend and bought any bags with detachable straps?

Tory Burch Distressed Leather Wristlet

June 24th, 2010 | Purse Spotlight

Although I understand the daintiness of a clutch, I have decided I am more of a wristlet type of girl. I lose things too often to not have them strapped to me. Wristlets are perfect for a night out because they don’t have to be so small as to fit in your palm, but are generally are still sized to fit your phone, keys, and credit card and not much else.

I have a green leather wristlet that I bought at the Gap about 10 years ago. For my starving college self, $40 was a stretch to spend on it, but the purchase has proven worth it. I carry it everywhere. The only thing that might replace my trusty green purse is this: the Tory Burch Distressed Metallic Leather Wristlet.Tory Burch Handbags

This came in a deep blue color that I can’t find anywhere but you can get the rose gold and silver, both pretty stunning, from Neiman Marcus.

Mulberry for Target out in October

June 21st, 2010 | Announcements

Target just announced its newest and I think best handbag collaboration to date. British brand Mulberry with be partnering with the retailer on a collection that will be released on October 10.

While I am a big fan of the style that Target is achieving with its handbag collaborations, I have never liked the fake leather PVC that the Target price point necessitates. Word on the street is that Mulberry will be using more fabrics like denim and velvet, which will help keep the handbags from looking cheap.

Here are a few of my favorites from Mulberry’s current collection. Let’s hope they can translate their great designs into purses that everyone can afford!

Cupcakes and Cashmere for Coach

June 2nd, 2010 | Purse Spotlight

Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere has collaborated with Coach to design a handbag and it’s now available for sale! I’m a little crazy for this purse. I like the pearly pink leather and the chain detailing and the size and pretty much everything else about it. From reading Cupcakes and Cashmere it seems like this Coach purse is a great representation of Emily’s personality and her aesthetic.Cupcakes and Cashmere for Coach

If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up. There are only around 200 New Emily’s Satchels available and you can buy yours here.

UPDATE: This link is no longer working so I think the  C & C  bag is sold out. I wish they’d make more.
