Mulberry for Target is a bust!

October 26th, 2010 | Purse Spotlight

This is a bit late in coming since Mulberry for Target has now been in stores for two weeks, but was anyone else as disappointed as I was?

When I heard about the collaboration I was really excited. Mulberry is a design house that I have always admired and early rumors said they planned to use materials like velvet and denim to reduce the PVC cheapness vibe that many Target projects end up having. While they did incorporate these materials, I still can’t say I’m impressed.  Though many of the pieces have the shape often identified with the brand, these bags are a far cry from the Mulberry that makes the Alexa and the Bayswater.

I didn’t buy one so can’t say much about the craftsmanship and I am interested to hear what other folks think. Anyone else have thoughts on the Mulberry for Target collection?

Lottery Bag: Mulberry Bayswater Python Bag

October 16th, 2010 | Lottery Bags

Mulberry Bayswater HandbagSince we’re on a British kick I feel the need to mention this new bag by Mulberry which, should I win the lottery, will be one of my first purchases. Putting aside the fact that snake skin creeps me out a little bit, I have fallen in love with the golden tones of this new incarnation of the Mulberry Bayswater. As happens every fall, metallics have taken over much of the seasonal handbag selection, but this metallic is so different. The subtle variations in color, the flawless execution, and the classic Mulberry shape make this a bag that will amp up any outfit and will be a go-to bag for years to come. For $4000 it better be.

If you’re looking to get yourself an early Christmas present, you can buy the Mulberry Bayswater Python Bag at Net-a-Porter.

Fall Purse Trend: Leopard Print and Ladylike

August 28th, 2010 | Purse Trends

Everyone is talking about leopard print as the new big thing for fall and I, for one, am really excited about it. In the past animal prints have been big trends but now they have a become a standard part of every fashionable woman’s wardrobe.

Structured, ladylike shapes are also the rage in handbags for fall and designers from all price points have combined the two styles giving you purse options that will be in style for years.

Mulberry Hayden Tote

July 12th, 2010 | Purse Spotlight

What is there to not love about the Mulberry Hayden Tote? Soft, buttery lambskin called “plonge;” classic shape with modern, military accents; adjustable side straps; beautiful gray that will go with everything. This bag can take you through fall, winter and spring in wonderful Mulberry Style.

My only complaint is that this beautiful gray is called “drizzle.” While I understand the reference, the word drizzle does not have the most positive connotation. The whole package is so nice, however, that I am willing to overlook the name.

As I mentioned earlier, Mulberry is working with Target on a handbag line that comes out in October. While I don’t expect any lambskin in that collection, if the Target line has a quarter of the style of the Hayden Tote, we have a lot to look forward to.

You can buy the Mulberry Hayden Tote for $950 at Mulberry.

In other news, my husband’s Aunt told me that she has always wanted a Bottega Veneta handbag and this spring, after years of pining, she bought herself one as a birthday present. Way to go, Aunt Martha!

Mulberry for Target out in October

June 21st, 2010 | Announcements

Target just announced its newest and I think best handbag collaboration to date. British brand Mulberry with be partnering with the retailer on a collection that will be released on October 10.

While I am a big fan of the style that Target is achieving with its handbag collaborations, I have never liked the fake leather PVC that the Target price point necessitates. Word on the street is that Mulberry will be using more fabrics like denim and velvet, which will help keep the handbags from looking cheap.

Here are a few of my favorites from Mulberry’s current collection. Let’s hope they can translate their great designs into purses that everyone can afford!
